a big square for onella

In this big square North Fitzroy backyard, set behind a handsome Victorian house, the existing features were a small studio building on the southern boundary, an adjacent car parking area and a single Lilly Pilly tree.

An asymmetrical though balanced composition responds to the symmetrical plan of the house and the detached studio building.

A paved terrace, arbor and formal pond centre the garden plan, with generous planted borders on the periphery.

A central lawn aligns to the sitting room and hallway of the house. The lawn, paved and gravel areas keep the landscape uncluttered and the arbor and associated low, hedged planting separate the central terrace from the vegetable garden at the rear of the site.
